Wrestling wins Homecoming Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus finished up its regular season tournament schedule with a first place finish at the seven team Homecoming Invitational with a score of 113.5.

Junior 133 pounder Alex Blank (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) took first place in his bracket, defeating Tobe Onyekweli of UMBC in the first round 10-2, then defeated Frankl Cabibbo of Oneonta State by a 7-1 score. In the title bout, he defeated Benjamin Mikac of Oneonta State by a 3-1 score.

Sophomore 174 pounder Myles Tornetta (Frazer, Pa./Great Valley) won his bracket, as he started the day with a pin of Ryan White of UMBC in 4:29, then defeated David Kohls of Oneonta State in the semis by pin in 3:45. In the championship bout, he defeated Mike Munno of UMBC by a 3-2 decision.

Sophomore Teddy Conrad (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) on his bracket at 197, defeating Alec Pence of UMBC in the first round by a 11-8 decision, before taking a 14-6 major decision over Stephen Provenzano of Oneonta State in the championship match.

Sophomore William Cornely (Cinnaminson, N.J./Camden Catholic) won the 285 bracket as he defeated John LaPoint of UMBC in the feirst round via pin in 7:25, before defeating Nicholas Pallotta of Muhlenberg in the semis with  a 17-8 major decision. In the championship bout, he defeated James Lamonica of Oneonta State by a 6-3 decision.

Junior Connor McCormick (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J.Roberts) finished second at 149, as did senior John Whitham (Abington, Pa./La Salle) at 157 and senior Nate Murren (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) at 184. Murren is now one win shy of his 100th career win, and has a chance to do so on Saturday in the team's first quad of the season.

Curtis Watkins finished third at 141 pounds.
