Bears Fall on the Road at Gettysburg, 63-49.

GETTYSBURG, PA. - The Ursinus College Women's Basketball team led 33-21 at halftime, but a big second half from Gettysburg proved to be the difference in Centennial Conference action Friday evening. The Bears were unable to overcome a slow start in the second half and were downed 63-49 by the Bullets.  

With the loss, the Bears drop to 2-16 overall and 2-10 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Bullets improved to 17-2 overall and 15-0 in conference play. 

Sophomore Maria D'Aulerio led the Bears with a team-high 15 points and shot 3-5 from behind the arc. First-year Chinwe Irondi tallied 12 points and hauled 11 rebounds during the contest. 

After Gettysburg was given a technical foul prior to the contest, D'Aulerio gave the Bears a 3-0 lead with a jump shot, assisted by Irondi. Gettysburg answered with back-to-back baskets to take a 4-3 at the 8:27 mark. Ursinus would go on a 7-0 run over the next minutes and controlled a 10-4 lead. Irondi and D'Aulerio would connect on jump shots and Margrett Brown converted a three-point play to give the Bears a 10-4 lead with 5:54 remaining in the first quarter. After a free throw for Gettysburg, the Bears answered with a fast break layup and a three-pointer from Natalie Mehl to give them a 15-5 lead after the first quarter.  

The Bullets answered back in the second quarter hitting back-to-back three-pointers to close the gap to just four points at the 8:20 mark. Both teams would go scoreless over the next two minutes before a layup from Gettysburg made it a 15-13 game. After a jump shot from Mackenzie Szlosek tied the game at 15 a piece, Ursinus answered with a 10-0 run. First, Sarah Dilello connected on a three-pointer, assisted from Irondi. After a Gettysburg missed jump shot, Alison Lisanti connected from deep at the 4:14 mark. A steal from Irondi resulted in a basket, followed up by a layup from the first year forward gave the Bears a 25-15 lead with 3:10 left in the first half. Ursinus would stretch their lead to 15 after a free throw from Brown found the back of the net with 58 seconds left in the first half. Gettysburg closed out the first half with a layup and free throw to make the score 33-21 with 20 minutes to play.  

The Bullets offense would come alive in the third quarter outscoring the Bears 21-9 in the third frame. Gettysburg cut the deficit to just seven points at the 6:49 mark after converting a three-point play.  

The Bullets would score the next ten points of the contest to hold a three-point lead with 2:22 remaining in the third quarter. The Bears would answer back twice in the closing minutes of the quarter, tying the game at 42 a piece at the end of the third quarter. D'Aulerio connected on a three-pointer and a jump shot in the closing possessions.  

Gettysburg opened the fourth quarter with seven straight points to hold a 49-42 lead with just under 9 minutes to play. Trailing by 12 with 5:37 to play, D'Aulerio connected on a three to cut the deficit to just nine points. Gettysburg stretched the lead back to 12 after a basket and a foul made the score 58-46 with 4:10 remaining. D'Aulerio answered with another three-pointer to cut the deficit back to nine. Gettysburg would score the final five points of the contest and leave with a 63-49 conference victory.  

The Bears will have a chance to bounce back tomorrow as they host Gettysburg inside Helfferich Hall at 3pm.
