Women’s Hoops Suffers Setback on Road at Dickinson

CARLISLE, PA. The Ursinus College Women's Basketball team suffered a setback on Sunday afternoon, losing to Dickinson College 62-38. The Bears fell behind early in the contest and were unable to overcome an early deficit, suffering their second loss to the Red Devils this season.

Dickinson came out on fire in the first quarter, jumping out to an early 13-0 lead before Ursinus answered with a Gabby Downs three-pointer. Jennifer Kremp answered with a three of her own, followed by a layup from Abby John stretched the score to 18-3 with 2:43 remaining in the quarter. Chinwe Irondi and Sarah DiLello both scored in the final two minutes to cut the deficit to 13 at the end of the first quarter.

The Red Devils opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to stretch the score to 29-8 at the 8-minute mark. Irondi scored on the following possession followed by a Natalie Mehl jump shot at the 7:22 mark. Both teams struggled for the next three minutes before Kremp recorded a layup to make the score 31-12. Over the final three minutes of the first half, Dickinson outscored the Bears to hold a commanding 35-15 lead at halftime.

Both teams battled back in fourth to start the third quarter through the first five minutes as the Red Devils led 42-20 at the 4:48 mark. Sarah DiLello would knock down back-to-back three-pointers as the Bears cut the deficit to 16 with 41 seconds left in the third quarter. With 13 seconds remaining, a Jenna Weinstein jumper would make the score 44-26 Dickinson at the end of three.

Dickinson would start the fourth with a 4-0 run before Chinwe Irondi could answer with a layup at the 6:50 mark. Irondi would score the next eight points for Ursinus, but the lead proved to be too large as the Bears fell on the road. Irondi led the Bears scoring 15 points and hauling in eight rebounds. Sarah DeLello added nine points off the bench and Natalie Mehl contributed seven points and two rebounds.

The Bears return to action tomorrow as they travel to West Minister, Maryland for a conference matchup with McDaniel at 6pm.
