BALTIMORE, Md. – The Ursinus College women's basketball team wrapped up its regular-season slate with a 75-53 setback at red-hot Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference action.

It wasn't the result the Bears (16-9, 13-7) wanted but it put a close to a historic regular season in program history. Ursinus' 13 conference wins matched the most since the 1994-95 season, when the Bears won the league crown.

The special season has Ursinus in the conference playoffs as the fourth seed. The Bears will host fifth-seeded Muhlenberg Tuesday in the CC first-round game.

The Bears, winners of three straight, ran into a buzzsaw in Johns Hopkins (22-3, 18-2), which has now reeled off nine games in a row.

Sophomore Aliyah Stephens did the lion's share of the scoring for the Bears, who shot a hair below 40-percent. Stephens was the only Bear in double figures with 18 points.

The trio of junior Lydia Konstanzer, sophomore Maya Kornfeld, and freshman Gabby Downs scored nine points apiece.

Carrying the strong shooting Blue Jays to victory was Lillian Scott, the CC's second-leading scorer. Scott did a little bit of everything to fuel Johns Hopkins. She poured in a game-high 27 points on an efficient 10-of-15 shooting day with four rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Lexie Scholtz joined Scott in double figures as she added 18 points along with five rebounds and three assists.

Johns Hopkins shot just under 54-percent and outgained the Bears 34-23 in the rebounding department. The Blue Jays lead the conference in rebound margin. Enforcing their will down low, the Blue Jays outscored the Bears, 40-20, in the paint. Ursinus handed out just five assists to Hopkins' 19 helpers.

Johns Hopkins started 9-of-12 from the floor, working the ball into the paint for high-percentage looks. Scott scored four straight points to go up 9-4, and a strong crosscourt pass by Scott to Marissa Varnado led to a made 3 and a 20-11 lead. Scholtz concluded the first quarter with a pull-up jumper at the buzzer to lead 24-15.

After Johns Hopkins pushed the lead to 28-17 with 7:34 to play in the second quarter, Ursinus went on an 8-0 run while the potent Blue Jays were held scoreless for over six minutes. In the run, Konstanzer was fouled making a difficult hook shot then added another basket in the paint. Kornfeld drained a long jump shot from the wing to get within three points at 28-25 with less than two minutes to play before halftime.

Scholtz made a triple to end the Blue Jays' long drought and Johns Hopkins took a 33-27 advantage to the locker room.

Rory Cole's layup and dish off to Spitzer on the weak side for another layup put the Blue Jays up 39-27 with 8:24 to play in the third quarter. A quick Ursinus spurt cut the game to single digits. Kornfeld made a 3 and Stephens cashed in a jumper to make it 43-34 with 5:34 to go in the quarter, but Johns Hopkins ran off a 14-4 run to take a 57-38 lead into the last stanza.

The Bears now prepare for their home playoff game since 2007 against a Mules squad with whom they split a pair of regular-season meetings. Ursinus edged Muhlenberg, 53-52, on Wednesday.
