Career Highs Pace Women's Basketball Past Owls

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Three players registered career scoring performances to power the Ursinus College women's basketball team to a 64-39 Centennial Conference victory at Bryn Mawr on Thursday night.

Senior Libby Lannon (16 points) and freshmen Lydia Konstanzer (16) and Paulina Boyer (13) all had their best offensive production in a Bears uniform, with Konstanzer tallying 12 rebounds and seven steals to post her first double-double – and flirt with a rare triple-double. Fellow rookie Toni Suler collected four blocks for Ursinus (3-3, 2-1), which turned 35 Bryn Mawr turnovers into 31 points and owned a 37-0 advantage in bench points thanks to the efforts of Konstanzer and Boyer.

Erica Dwyer led all scorers with 22 points for the Owls (1-5, 0-3), who fell to 0-49 all-time against Ursinus.

Konstanzer's seven steals are the most by an Ursinus player in at least a dozen years, and the freshman forward split her 12 rebounds evenly between the offensive and defensive ends.

Bryn Mawr did lead after a jumper by Halena Martin a minute and half after tip-off, but Lannon connected on back-to-back buckets as the Bears rattled off the next seven points and stormed ahead to stay. A triple by Boyer, three straight field goals by Konstanzer, and a pair of free throws from freshman Krista Schneider put the visitors on top by as many as 13 (22-9) late in the first quarter. Ursinus shot 50.0 percent from the field (9 for 18) in the opening frame and posted its highest scoring quarter of the season.

Boyer and Schneider supplied the Bears' first six points of the second before Konstanzer's consecutive scores gave Ursinus a 20-point lead at 32-12, and the margin stayed there at the break (37-17). Ursinus converted 19 Owl turnovers into 19 points in the first half, after which Lannon had already scored 11 points and Konstanzer nearly had a double-double already with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Ursinus' lead never slipped below 15 in the second half and grew as large as 27 in the fourth quarter.

Lannon finished 7 of 12 from the field, while Konstanzer was 7 of 16 and converted both of her free-throw attempts. Boyer went 5 of 8 and knocked down all but one of her four 3-point tries, also chipping in six rebounds, a pair of steals, and a block.

Suler, the CC leader in blocked shots, tallied six points, five rebounds, and three steals in addition to her four swats.

The women's basketball team returns home to face McDaniel in CC play on Saturday, December 3. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
