Softball Drops Two on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla – The Ursinus College softball team wrapped up its spring break trip to Florida with a pair of losses on Saturday.

The Bears put the tying run on board in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to complete a late rally in a 3-2 defeat to Western New England in the opener. Alfred then limited Ursinus (6-6) to three singles in a 6-0 shutout in game two.

Game 1

The Golden Bears opened up a 3-0 lead with a two-run fourth, and Ursinus was kept quiet until Amanda Ladzinski's run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth.

The Bears gave themselves a chance in their last at-bat, when Julia Eckels singled, stole second, and came around to score on Amanda Panati's RBI single. Representing the winning run, Morgan Comfort flew out to center field to end the game.

Jennifer Hammons pitched well for the Bears, tossing a complete game. She allowed eight hits and two walks, striking out six.

Seven Ursinus players had a single at the plate, with Comfort and Eckels scoring the runs.

Game 2

Comfort reached base all three times in the nightcap, notching two singles and a walk. Delaney Baker was the only other Ursinus player to record a hit, producing a single.

Kayla McTamney kept the Saxons off the board until the third, when they scored three times to take a commanding lead. Alfred tacked on single runs in each of the next three frames.
