COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College softball team gave its six seniors a celebration to remember, sweeping Gettysburg for the first time in eight seasons behind a pair of stellar pitching performances.

Junior Jennifer Hammons spun a three-hit shutout in the opener, a 4-0 victory for the Bears, and sophomore Morgan Comfort stranded the tying run on second base as the hosts held on for a 4-2 decision in the nightcap.

In between games, Ursinus honored Sammi Donato, Faith Carson, Callie Crouse, Kayla Quinn, Gabrielle Manto, and Samantha Garritano in a Senior Day ceremony.

Game 1: Ursinus 4, Gettysburg 0

Hammons got all the support she needed in the first inning, when Ursinus (12-10, 3-3) took the lead on Comfort's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded.

The Bears doubled their lead in the third as sophomore Amanda Ladzinski ripped a double to right field to plate Comfort, who had doubled herself with one out.

With Hammons on cruise control, sophomore Heather Lazer made the result a formality with a two-run double to right center in the last half of the sixth.

Hammos (6-5) was brilliant in the circle, scattering just three hits and expertly navigating around five walks with the help of seven strikeouts, one shy of her career high. The biggest threat came in the top of the sixth, when Gettysburg loaded the bases with one out before Hammons froze the next batter looking and induced a fly ball to right to get out of the jam.

Ladzinski finished 3-for-3 to lead the offense, while sophomore Megan Hasulak (2-for-2) and Donato (2-for-3, run) each notched a multi-hit game.

Game 2: Ursinus 4, Gettysburg 2

Comfort had to overcome some adversity right away, giving up a leadoff homer to Sarahrose Jonik in the top of the first. Her offense picked her up immediately, Lazer driving home rookie Mackenzie Brennan with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame.

Comfort helped her own cause with a run-scoring single in the third, giving the Bears a 2-1 advantage.

The Bears added on two more in the sixth, first on a clutch pinch-hit single by Carson and again on sophomore Delaney Baker's RBI knock through the left side.

Gettysburg rallied in the seventh, but it was too little and too late. Rachel Julie's two-out RBI double made it 4-2 and put runners on second and third, but Comfort bore down and got Mackenzie Taylor to bounce out to third base to end it.

Comfort (4-2) allowed two runs on six hits, walking four and striking out one. She was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored at the plate.
