Softball moves to 5-1 with another sweep

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Ursinus College softball team continues to roll, as the Bears moved to 5-1 on the young season with its second straight sweep of games in Myrtle Beach.

In the opener, the Bears broke open a 1-1 game in the second with three runs in the bottom of the frame. The big blow was a two-run triple by sophomore right fielder Carly Gartenberg (White Plains, N.Y./Westchester Hebrew) that scored sophomore left fielder Casey Derella (Millville, N.J./Millville) and freshman catcher Sarah Berardo (Keyport, N.J./Matawan Regional).

Ursinus added an insurance run in the fifth when junior second baseman Zoe Heinke (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) doubled to left, scoring Gartenberg.

Freshman Kaitlyn Willis (Perryville, Md./Perryville) got the win, striking out six and walking one. She allowed one unearned run.

In game two, the Bears banged out 14 hits and scored three runs in the second, third and sixth innings.

Four players had multiple hits, with freshman shortstop Arastina Barry (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley), junior pitcher Zoe Heinke (Stewartsville, N.J./Stewartsville) and sophomore left fielder Casey Derella (Millville, N.J./Millville) each having three hits.
