LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The Ursinus College men's cross country team ran a strong race at the Inter-Regional Border Battle, finishing 31st in the massive event hosted by Rowan to script an impressive tune-up for the Centennial Conference championship in two weeks.
Four runners accomplished new personal records, two of them by almost two minutes, as the Bears finished four places higher in the team standings than their 2016 showing.
Junior James McDaid clocked a personal best and cracked the 26-minute barrier for the first time on an 8-kilometer course, crossing the line in 25:56.6 to finish in 52nd place in a field of nearly 400 runners.
Junior John Haase trimmed more than 18 seconds off his previous career record with a mark of 27:27.0.
Classmate John DeLia's time of 27:54.1 was a PR by almost two full minutes, and senior Andrew Voyack was a split-second behind in 27:54.6, missing his own personal benchmark by just three seconds.
Freshman Logan Yoquinto shaved almost two minutes off his previous collegiate best to complete the meet in 28:01.4. Junior Logan Mazullo was right on his heels at 28:02.8.
Sophomore Kyle Berardi was the seventh Bear to finish, doing so in 29:18.3. Sophomore Dylan Geissinger-Tuttle (29:20.5), freshman Marcos Maciel (29:29.7), senior Jonny Cope (29:49.0), and freshman Edward (30:33.8) also competed for Ursinus.
The Bears take on the rest of the conference at Haverford on Saturday, October 27.
