MEDIA, Pa. – For the second straight year, the Ursinus College men's cross country team and junior James McDaid came home with some hard-earned hardware in their season opener.

McDaid cruised to a second consecutive individual title at the Bryn Mawr Invitational, clearing junior teammate John Haase by more than 30 seconds to help the Bears win back-to-back crowns at Rose Tree Park.

Ursinus placed three in the top five and all of its top seven entrants in the top 21 finishers to top second-place Eastern by a full 20 points.

McDaid's mark of 16:53.6 was a new personal best, edging the 16:59.1 he clocked at last year's meet. Haase also secured a new career benchmark, crossing the line in 17:27.4 to snag second place.

Junior John DeLia rounded out the top five individuals in a personal best 17:47.3, and freshman Ed Martinez completed the race in 17:56.2 to take ninth overall.

Junior Logan Mazullo placed 15^th in 18:11.5, and classmate Craig Lauer produced another PR (18:15.0) to land in 17^th. Sophomore Kyle Berardi capped the Bears' contingent with a time of 18:27.1.

Freshmen Marcos Maciel (19:05.5, 31^st) and Caleb Torres (19:39.4, 42^nd) also made their collegiate debuts, with senior Jonny Cope (19:13.7, 37^th) finishing in between them.

Ursinus continues its season at Kutztown's Division II/III Challenge on Saturday, September 15.
