Bittenbender Breaks School Record in Opener

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Austin Bittenbender etched his name into program history with a school record in the 300-meter dash and the throwers put on their customary clinic to headline a successful indoor opener for the Ursinus College men's track and field team at the Bears' Bow Tie Invitational.

Bittenbender crossed the line in 36.09 seconds in the 300, the best time in school history and not far off the Centennial Conference standard of 35.7.

Griffin McMann won the shot put with a personal-best 48-4.00, about four feet clear of teammate Nick Galbraith, who also notched a new PR (44-3.00) to come in second. Rookie Matthew Byrnes placed fourth with a 40-4.25 in his debut.

The school record was just half of a terrific effort by Bittenbender, who also won the long jump at 22 feel, 1.75 inches. Zach Crebbin was third with an indoor personal best of 20-11.75 in addition to a second-place showing in the high jump (6-2.00)

The mid-distance crew turned in a night to remember, with Brandon Slaboda, Dylan Simms, Payton Stanziani, and Andre Kelly winning the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:30.36.

Kelly led the pack in the 800 at 2:01.27, where Simms was second (2:07.09) and Slaboda put up a big PR at 2:11.34.

Daniel Tabor won the 200-meter dash in 24.42 seconds, just ahead of fellow rookie Max Gadsden (24.81). Gadsden was second to none in the 60-meter dash, crossing first in a mark of 7.57 with Brody Johnson (7.77) in tow.

Marcos Maciel completed the mile in 4:38.77, and Colin McCarty was less than two seconds behind with a personal-best 4:40.58. Stanziani finished in 4:53.46.

Daniel Maloney clocked a 9.02 in the 60-meter hurdles.
