BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two meets, one common denominator for the Ursinus College men's track and field team.
The Bears split up on Saturday, taking most of the squad to Moravian and a small distance unit to Widener. All came back with similar results – plenty of big PRs.
At Moravian, freshman Tyler Reilly improved his already Centennial Conference-leading time in the 400-meter dash, lowering it all the way down to 49.20 to finish runner-up in the event. Freshman Bradley Duncan-Taylor notched a new personal best with a 50.57 and junior Andre Kelly finished in 51.01.
Reilly, Duncan-Taylor, Kelly, and freshman Logan Yoquinto jumped up to third in the conference with a clocking of 3:25.04 in the 4x400-meter relay.
Freshman Octavious Carter placed sixth in the 100 (11.33) and eighth in the 200 (22.81), where he was just off a PR. Freshman Tyree Williams-Jackson shattered his previous individual standard in the 200 with 23.61.
Freshman Brandon Slaboda narrowly missed a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:02.61.
Freshman Ed Martinez nabbed a new PR in the 800 (2:03.00).
Williams-Jackson made it a double PR day with a huge collegiate best in the long jump (6.07 meters).
Sophomore Griffin McMann recorded a big PR in the discus (41.79 meters), moving up to second on the CC performance list, and placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 14.08 meters. Classmate Nick Galbraith easily eclipsed his previous standard in the javelin (48.82 meters) while falling just shy of doing so in the shot put (12.33 meters) and discus (34.70 meters). Sophomore Mike Felix was runner-up in the javelin at 52.60 meters.
At Widener, junior James McDaid finished almost 20 seconds below his previous best in the 5000 meters, moving to 10th in the CC with a time of 15:15.82.
Junior John Haase led a tight trio of runners in the 10000 meters, finishing in 34:27.04 to narrowly outpace senior Andrew Voyack (34:28.50) and junior Daniel Powell (34:29.97). The group now ranks seventh through ninth, respectively, in the conference.
