Men's Track and Field hits two meets in four days

The Ursinus College men's track and field team, entering the home stretch before Centennial Conference Championships, participated in two meets last week at Gwynedd-Mercy and the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton.

Gwynedd-Mercy Mid-Week Invitational

At the Gwynedd-Mercy Mid-Week meet, Ursinus had three members qualify for the shot put final as Adam Myers, Anthony Saul and Antonio Goode all made it, with Myers finishing fourth. In the javelin, Myers finished second with a throw of 159, a season best. Thomas Donnelly finished third with a toss of 158-04, with A.J. Nienius hitting the qualifying standard at 131-06.

In the 110 hurdles, Evan Shea finished second overall with a season-best time of 15.3.

Patrick Mekongo was second in the 200 at 22.4, while Darius Jones was third with a time of 22.5. Tony Sierzega was ninth at 23.6.

In the 400, Mekongo was first, while Jones was second as they both broke the 50 second barrier. They are currently the top two seeds in the conference. Richard Schulz finished seventh at 52.6.

In the 400H, Jequan Mitchell won the event with a personal best time of 58.1 Richard Gould was third overall at one minute flat.

In the 1500, Luke Schlegel was third overall at 4:22, a season best and just missed his personal best.

In the 5k, Jamie Hartop was the event with a personal best time of 16:56, shattering his previous best time of 17:25. Jason Rudich finished second at 17:32, just missing his personal best.

Larry Ellis Invitational – Princeton University

Drew Mackin finished with a time of 1:55 in the 800, less than half of second off his personal best.

Mekongo was 11th in the 200 at 21.8, as the top Division III finisher. It marked the first time he dropped his time into the 21 second range. He currently ranks 21st in the country in that event. Jones was 20th overall at 22.2.

Mekongo and Jones are ranked first and third in the 200 and first and second in the 400 in the Centennial Conference.

Jones posted a 6-4 in the high jump, tied for seventh overall.

Shea ran a 15.6 in the 110 hurdles, half second off his personal best and currently ranks second in the conference.

The team of Jones, Schulz, Mackin and Mekongo broke another school record in the 4x4, this time with a time of 3:18. Ranking 14th in the country in that event, Jones and Mekongo both ran splits of 48 seconds.
