Ursinus Tennis Teams Featured in First NCAA Regional Rankings

Ursinus Tennis Teams Featured in First NCAA Regional Rankings

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Tennis teams were featured in the initial NCAA Tennis Regional Rankings that were released on Thursday afternoon.

The NCAA Tennis regional rankings are brand new for the 2021-22 season after the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) had the lone regional rankings for NCAA Tennis in all three divisions. Unlike the ITA that has Division III regional rankings split into four regions with 100 teams, teams in the NCAA Regional Rankings are broken down into eight regions that include 50 teams. These first set of rankings are listed in alphabetical order by team for Week 1 and will be listed numerically in rank order starting Week 2.

"This is a testement to how hard both teams have worked this year and we look forward to continue to get better each day," said Ursinus Head Tennis Coach Pete Smith. "They have battled through a tough Centennial and non-conference schedule all season."

The Ursinus women's tennis team is one of eight Centennial Conference teams featured in the top 10 for Region III. The Bears stand at 9-6 overall and 3-3 in Centennial play after facing three-straight nationally ranked opponents by the ITA in Swarthmore, Johns Hopkins, and Haverford.

On the men's side, Ursinus is also one of eight Centennial Conference teams featured in the top 10 for Region III. The Bears record currently stands at 7-6 overall and 2-4 in Centennial Conference action. Ursinus is coming off facing back-to-back nationally ranked teams by the ITA in Haverford and Johns Hopkins.

The men's team returns to action this afternoon against Rutgers-Camden in non-conference action at 3:30 while the women's team hosts Franklin & Marshall at 6:30 p.m. on Monday night.
