Men's Tennis Cruises Past Curry

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Ursinus College men's tennis team picked up its first win in Florida in dominating fashion on Thursday, cruising to a 9-0 sweep of Curry at Oak Street Park.

After dropping a pair of 6-3 decisions earlier in the week, the Bears (2-3) got back on the winning path convincingly. They lost only three games over three doubles matches, with senior Jake Lachowicz and sophomore Kyle Bookman aiding in that effort with an 8-0 sweep at number three. Junior Connor DeFaber-Schumacher and freshman Simbarashe Kanjanda dropped just a single game at number two, while sophomores Mason Groff and Matt Fontanese picked up an 8-2 victory on the first court.

Lachowicz was most dominant on the singles courts, polishing off a perfect morning and extending his individual winning streak to four matches with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at number five. His partner Bookman was almost as merciless, ultimately conceding just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 final at number six. Kanjanda was a 6-1, 6-3 winner on the fourth court.

At the top, Groff registered a 6-2, 6-2 triumph on the first court. DeFaber-Schumacher rolled 6-1, 6-2 at number two, and Fontanese completed the 9-0 sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 win at number three.

The Bears conclude their southern swing Friday against North Central (Ill.) at 12:30 p.m.
