ORLANDO, Fla. – The back of the lineup was sensational for the Ursinus College men's tennis team in Monday's spring-break opener, but the Bears were unable to get anything going at the top in a 6-3 defeat to Transylvania in Orlando.

Senior Jake Lachowicz and sophomore Kyle Bookman each went 2-0 for the Bears (1-2), winning at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, before teaming up for a convincing rout at third doubles.

Lachowicz and Bookman easily handled Brandon Stofleth and Hunter Gregg by an 8-1 final on the doubles court, their second consecutive victory as a duo.

That was the lone doubles win for Ursinus, and despite some tight matches the Bears were only able to come up with a pair of singles victories.

Lachowicz swept a first-set tiebreaker against Stofleth and used the momentum to post a shutout in the second set for a 7-6 (0), 6-0 triumph at number five. Bookman, meanwhile, generally dominated en route to a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Daniel Cooper at number six.

Junior Connor DeFaber-Schumacher came back from a 6-0 first-set whitewashing to grab the second set, 6-4, but couldn't get over the hump and wound up on the short end of a 10-4 super tiebreaker against Hugo Kouhkna at second singles. Freshman Simbarashe Kanjanda lost a tiebreaker in the first set on the fourth court.

The Bears return to action Tuesday with a night match against Piedmont.
