FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Ursinus College men's tennis team opened the fall portion of its schedule over the weekend at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.

Senior Paul Vecchio and junior Connor DeFaber-Schumacher were the lone Bears to make the trip.

DeFaber-Schumacher opened his campaign with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) upset over Virginia Wesleyan's Andreas Combos, the number three seed in the Flight C singles draw. He followed that with a tightly contested 7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Wilkes' Chris Maderitz in the quarterfinals.

Vecchio lost 6-0, 6-2 to No. 9 Josh Moskovitz of Haverford in the top men's singles championship, and fell by the reverse score to Johns Hopkins' Matt Lurie in the consolation bracket.

The duo teamed up for the premier doubles tournament as well, dropping an 8-4 decision to Christopher Newport's Ryan Macy and Andy Mason and losing by the same spread to Goucher's Elliott Diehl and Slade Dumas.
