Men's Soccer Blanked by Blue Jays

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Ursinus College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at No. 17 Johns Hopkins in its final road match of the season.

The Bears (0-12-3, 0-8) managed to keep a lid on a high-scoring offense for much of the night, but the Blue Jays (12-3-1, 6-2) scored twice in a span of less than five minutes around the midway point of the first half to take charge. Johns Hopkins moved into a tie with Haverford for first place in the Centennial Conference, though the Fords have a game in hand.

Senior Brandon Lillian made six saves to help keep the Blue Jays at bay. Johns Hopkins owned an 18-5 advantage in shots, with seniors Ben Amaral (three), Justin Molyneaux, and Derek Rudy taking all the attempts for the Bears.

Ursinus held Hopkins off the board until the 26th minute, when Pablo Martinez put in the rebound from a header by Achim Younker in the left side of the box. About four minutes later, Cole Rosenberger tapped in a cross from Connor Jacobs.

That looked like it would be all the scoring for the night as the sides settled into more of a measured affair, but the Blue Jays had one more in them. Amaral made some space for himself in the left of the box, but his low shot was blocked away by Hopkins reserve goalie Jeremy Radcliff. The ball went out for a corner, which the Blue Jays intercepted to trigger a counter attack that saw Liam Moylan get behind the defense and in on Lillian. The Bears keeper rushed out to make the initial save, but Moylan chased down his own rebound and tapped home for a 3-0 lead in the 86th minute.

Amaral put another shot on goal in the closing minutes, heading a long Molyneaux throw in back towards Radcliff.

The Bears close out their season on Saturday, October 27 with a Senior Day match against Gettysburg.
