Sherman Shoots Career Low at Spring Invite

ELVERSON, Pa. – Senior Matthew Sherman played the best round of his career as the Ursinus College men's golf team hosted a massive field for the annual Ursinus Spring Invitational at Stonewall North on Tuesday.

Ursinus shot 340 to finish 10th in a field of 15 complete teams, plus one that played as individuals and another that fell one player short of a full squad. A record 80 golfers took to the 6312-yard, par-70 track at the North Course, where Penn State Berks edged Alvernia and Gettysburg to claim the team title with a 310.

Berks' Matt Krieder captured the individual trophy on a match of cards with Gettysburg's Danny Harcourt, who fell victim to a back-nine tiebreaker.

Sophomore Ryan Hodgdon was the low man for the Bears, shooting an 82 to tie for 28th overall.

Sherman, meanwhile, carded an 84 – five shots better than his previous personal low set at the fall edition of this tournament.

Sophomore Brian Barrett was one shot back of Sherman with an 85, while senior Ryan Crawford – fresh off his first career win at the spring Revolutionary Collegiate Classic – signed for an 89 to round out the Bears' scoring.

Senior Max Schwartz scored a 92.

The men's golf team is slated to take part in the Rosemont Invitational this weekend.
