Stepping Up

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – With a game-high 27 points from sophomore guard Malik Draper, the Ursinus College men's basketball team sent their seniors off in style in their final home game with a 89-76 win over Washington College at Helfferich on Saturday. 

Senior forward Ryan Adams, who was honored before the game along with fellow seniors Pat Vasturia and Jesse Krasna, had 22 points as the Bears won their second straight at home. 
Krasna finished with 13 and Vasturia had 12 as the Bears scored 53 points in the second half, shooting 58.6 percent. 

Washington College (5-18, 4-12 Centennial) was led by 22 points from John Weston and 19 points from James Drury. 

Ursinus (5-18, 3-13 Centennial) saw Draper shoot 10-for-13 from the field and 6-for-8 from the foul line in the win. The Bears trailed by as much as seven in the first half, before closing the half on a 4-0 run to get within one at 37-36. 

In the second half, the Bears trailed early by three before going on a 13-0 run to go up 49-39 with 13:52 left. Washington would rally back to take the lead at 58-56 with 10:12 left before a three-pointer by Draper with 9:57 left gave the Bears the lead for good. 

Sophomore guard Mark Wonderling had six rebounds for Ursinus, while Tony Hawkins had a game-high 12 for the Shoremen. Ursinus took care of the ball, only turning it over six times. 

Ursinus heads to Haverford on Wednesday.
