Men's Basketball drops close game to Johns Hopkins, 67-66

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Johns Hopkins junior forward George Bugarinovic blocked Ursinus senior point guard Jesse Krasna's foul line jumper with just one second left, lifting the Blue Jays (8-7, 5-3 Centennial) to a 67-66 win in a thriller at Helfferich Hall on Saturday afternoon in men's basketball play.

Ursinus, playing with just nine healthy players, put all five starters in double figures paced by 15 from Krasna, and 12 from sophomore guard Malik Draper. Senior guard Ryan Adams, sophomore guard Mark Wonderling and freshman guard John Kanas each had 11.

Hopkins was led by 14 from Bugarinovic and 12 from sophomore guard Austin Vasiliadis along with 11 from junior guard Jimmy Hammer.

In a game that saw the lead change hands 13 times, Ursinus led all the way through the first half, taking a 35-31 lead at intermission. The Bears had their biggest lead at 20-10 with 12:13 left in the opening half on a three-point play by Krasna.

Hopkins did not take its first lead until 15:23 left in the second when Hammer hit a three-pointer for a 39-38 edge.

Trailing 47-45, Ursinus went on a 8-0 run to go up 53-47 with 11:19 left on a jumper by Krasna.

After a 64-all tie with 3:59 left, Hammer hit a three-pointer with 2:07 left to give Hopkins the lead for good.

Ursinus had three shots at the basket in the final minute, following a steal from Draper with 57 seconds left. Krasna missed a three with 27 seconds left, but, Wonderling grabbed the rebound to keep the ball for Ursinus. After a missed layup by Adams with four seconds left, Ursinus was awarded the ball out of bounds.

Both teams finished with 35 rebound, with Wonderling recording a double-double with a game-high ten rebounds. He also had five assists. Bugarinovic had seven rebounds for the Blue Jays, who swept the season series.

Ursinus will host Muhlenberg Wednesday at 6.
