Men's Basketball battles Division I Colgate, falls 79-51

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Ursinus went toe-to-toe with Division I Colgate, before the Raiders pulled away in the second half in a 79-51 win over the Bears (1-8) on Sunday afternoon at Cotterell Court. 

Ursinus was led by 18 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs, from senior forward Ryan Adams. Senior guard Jesse Krasna, in his second game back from injury, scored 14 and had four assists.

Both senior guard Pat Vasturia and sophomore guard Malik Draper each had seven off the bench for the Bears.

Colgate (6-4), who is a member of the Patriot League, got 11 points each from junior center Ethan Jacobs and senior forward Clayton Graham. 

In the first half, Ursinus took an early lead, going up five at 5-0 when freshman forward Patrick Mekongo scored a jumper off an assist from freshman guard John Kanas.

Ursinus went up 8-3 when Krasna connected on a three-pointer with 17:52 left, off an assist from Adams.

Trailing 20-18 after a basket by Vasturia with 10:52, Colgate pulled away as Ursinus went close to five minutes without a field goal. The end result saw the Raiders take a 15-point lead at 33-18 on a foul shot by Ethan Jacobs. 

Down 17, Ursinus ended the first half on a 5-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Draper with 58 seconds left for a 37-25 halftime deficit.

Ursinus came out in the second half and got a three-pointer from Krasna to pull with in 12 at 40-28 with 18:02 left in regulation. The Bears got to within 13, but could not get any closer. 

Ursinus takes off for Christmas, returning to the court on January 3 at Roanoke College, when they play William Peace.
