GRANTHAM, Pa. – Ursinus senior forward Ryan Adams (White Plains, N.Y./Hun School) had 17 points but the Bears (0-1) dropped their 2013 season opener on Friday afternoon to Hartwick (1-0) 89-73 at the Messiah Tip-Off Tournament.
The Hawks put four starters in double figures, paced by a game-high 19 from Joey Lufkin and 17 points and nine rebounds from Jared Suderly.
Ursinus got 14 points from sophomore guard Trevor Norton (Mullica Hill, N.J./Bishop Eustace), and eight points off the bench from freshman guard Matt Knowles (Waverly, Pa./Scranton Prep)
Sophomore guard Malik Draper (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) grabbed a team-high six rebounds for Ursinus.
Ursinus did not take a lead in the game but tied the score twice, the last instance at 404 with 18:19 left on a layup by Adams.
After being outscored by 54-37 in the first half, Ursinus outscored the Hawks 36-35 in the second half and only turned the ball over 11 times.
