HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The Ursinus College men's basketball team fell to Medaille in the second game of the Car Coop/Weenie Miller Holiday Hoops Tournament hosted by Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday night by a 75-70 score.
The Bears (2-7) will face Marymount in Thursday's consolation game.
Ursinus was paced by 19 points from sophomore forward Jon Ward (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) with senior guard Matt Hilton (Lewistown, Pa./Lewistown Area) scoring 17.
Sophomore guard Matt Donahue (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) had ten points for Ursinus.
Medaille (7-2) got 20 points from senior forward Ron Malicki, with senior forward Joe Mogavero adding in 16 points and ten rebounds.
In a game that saw 16 lead changes, Ursinus had as much as an eight point lead in the first half, going up 36-28 on a jumper by freshman guard Ryan Adams (White Plains, N.Y./The Hun School) with 56 seconds left until intermission.
Leading 38-30 starting the second half, Ursinus took its biggest lead of the game at 43-33 with 17:41 left in the game on a foul shot from freshman guard Jesse Krasna (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury).
Medaille regained the lead at 49-48 with 12:13 left on a three-pointer by Mogavero. The two teams would continue to trade the lead, before the Mavericks built a five-point lead with six seconds left.
The Mavericks had a 36-31 edge in rebounding, with Ward grabbing a team-high seven for Ursinus.
