COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus freshman forward Jon Ward
(Allentown, Pa./Parkland) scored a team-high 15 points,
while senior guard Remy Cousart (Philadelphia, Pa./Holy
Ghost) added in ten points and 11 rebounds as the Bears
(14-9, 10-6 Centennial) defeated McDaniel (8-14, 4-11 Centennial)
61-48 Saturday afternoon in men's basketball play.
Freshman guard Matt Donahue (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity
School) scored nine as Ursinus remained in a three-way tie
for second place in the Centennial Conference with the win. The
Bears are tied with Muhlenberg and Gettysburg heading into the
final week.
For McDaniel, sophomore forward Marcus Dyson had 18 points, with
freshman guard Tyler Rudd scoring 12.
McDaniel had an early lead, going up by three at 7-4 on a layup by
junior guard Michael Jarboe with 16:44 left in the first half.
Ursinus would take the lead for good at 14-12 with 12:57 left on a
three-pointer by Cousart. Ursinus went up by 19 in the closing
moments of the first half at 39-20 on a pair of foul shots by Ward
with 51 seconds left.
In the second half, Ursinus maintained a double digit lead.
Ursinus held a 37-26 lead on the glass, with Cousart's 11 being a
game-high. Sophomore center Woody Butler had seven caroms for
McDaniel.
Cousart now has 512 assists in his career, passing Haverford's John
Elefterakis for second all-time in the Centennial Conference.
Ursinus now faces a critical test in Washington on Wednesday in
Chestertown, Maryland. The Bears are one game up on Washington with
just two conference games remaining.
