Gymnastics Places 6th at NCGA Team Championships

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Ursinus College gymnastics closed the team portion of its season with a sixth-place showing at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association championships hosted by Brockport State.

The Bears, who placed second at the NCGA East Regional to qualify for the team championship, scored 47.400 on the beam, 46.800 on the vault, 46.250 on the bars, and 46.050 on the floors.

Wisconsin-La Crosse captured the team title with a 193.650, with Brockport a close second at 193.000. Wisconsin-Whitewater was third (192.925), followed by Winona State (191.650), SUNY Cortland (188.200), and Ursinus.

Sophomore Katherine Norris was a standout on the beam for Ursinus, earning a 9.750 to tie for second overall behind Cortland's Amanda Scanlon. Fellow sophomore Alexdandra Puryear scored a 9.575, and junior Jillian Casarella got a 9.500; sophomore Monique Brooks finished with a 9.375.

Sophomore Kelsey Stewart led the Bears on the vault with a 9.475, with Brooks posting a 9.400 and freshman Lindsay Rush a 9.375. Puryear tallied a 9.300, and classmate Kelly McLaughlin scored a 9.275.

Sophomore Amanda Palladino garnered a 9.575 on bars, where Casarella scored a 9.350. Stewart logged a 9.250.

Brooks was a standout once again on the floor, where her 9.700 just edged Stewart's 9.675. Sophomore Sydney Eckert scored a 9.400 for the Bears.

Seven Ursinus gymnasts will aim for All-American status in the individual competition, which begins Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
