Bears Shutout No.17 Haverford

COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The 14th-ranked Ursinus College field hockey team (12-4, 7-2) continued Centennial Conference play on Wednesday battling against No.17 Haverford Black Squirrels (13-3, 6-3).
The Showdown on Snell Field would play a key role in deciding the #2 seed in the conference, as both teams came into the day with a 6-2 conference record. The Fords had an opportunity early in the third minute of action, but Delaney Snowden shot was saved by Jordan Ulsh.

In the second period, neither side could get a shot off as both teams went into halftime tied at zero. Just two minutes into the third period, Haverford earned a penalty corner but the shot from Olivia Ahart screamed wide of the net. The goalkeeper for the Fords, Hannah Roth would be tested as a shot from Madison Handwerger was saved. Ursinus would force a penalty corner which led to a shot from Jamie Mayer that went wide of the net.

In the 42nd minute, Ursinus would add two more shots but both were denied by the Fords defense. Both teams would head to the fourth period still deadlocked at zeros on the scoreboard.

Three minutes in the fourth, Ellie Bruggeman was subbed in for the Bears, and just under a minute later a penalty corner was awarded for Ursinus. Laura Rothschild took the corner and the ball found Jamie Mayer who put a shot on goal, which was saved by Hannah Roth. Bruggeman would find the rebound and split the legs of the keeper for her eighth goal of the season.

Just under three minutes later, Bruggeman would find Jordan Moore in front of the net and she sneaked one pass Hannah Roth for her 11th goal of the season. Jordan Ulsh would finish with five saves and the defense continued their dominance making it three consecutive shutouts for the Bears.

The Bears will return to action on Saturday against Gettysburg as they celebrate Senior day.
