Bruggeman-to-Moore Leads Field Hockey Past Mules

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - With Ellie Bruggeman feeding Jordan Moore for a trio of goals, the No. 10 Ursinus College field hockey team extended its winning streak to five games with a 4-2 Centennial Conference victory over Muhlenberg on Wednesday night.

Bruggeman assisted on all three goals by Moore and added one of her own for the Bears (8-2, 3-0), who allowed only one shot until Muhlenberg managed a pair of goals in the closing minutes to make the scoreline closer.

Moore got the scoring started just past the 10-minute mark of the first quarter, tapping in a perfect cross from Bruggeman at the far post to stake the home side to an early advantage.

Bruggeman got in on the action early in the second quarter, when Gabriela Howell had her shot saved and a follow-up effort blocked right back to her before she slid a pass across for an easy finish by Bruggeman.

Bruggeman hooked up with Moore again just a minute into the second half, when Moore re-directed her hard pass into the back of the cage to make it a 3-0 game. They connected for the third and final time only three minutes later, as Howell fed Bruggeman for a sensational pass to Moore at the near post. The junior easily slotted home to complete her first career hat trick.

The Mules (3-6, 1-3) got on the board with 6:32 to play on a scramble in front, then added a second with only .3 seconds remaining as a hard shot clanged off an Ursinus stick and into the back of the cage.

Ursinus held a 12-5 advantage in shots and inserted seven corners to the Mules' five.

The Bears head to Baltimore on Saturday for a titanic showdown with No. 2 Johns Hopkins.
