Frey Named NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week

GILBERT, Ariz. – Already honored by the Centennial Conference, Ursinus College field hockey goalie Addie Frey added bolstered her burgeoning resume with an even larger prize when she was selected as the Division III defensive player of the week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).

Frey, who earned CC defensive player of the week recognition one day prior, caught the eye of the national organization with a brilliant two-game performance. The junior stopped 15 shots in posting a pair of shutouts against Swarthmore and Gettysburg, elevating the 9th-ranked Bears to a seven-game winning streak and into a tie for first place in the league standings.

Frey had two saves against the Garnet, but stood on her head in Saturday's trip to the Battlefield, producing 13 saves to help Ursinus post a 3-0 victory in a game in which it was outshot, 20-14. In eight games this season, Frey has surrendered just nine goals, recording an .857 save percentage and ranking second in the CC with 54 total stops.

Frey and the Bears have a big challenge awaiting them on Thursday, when No. 2 TCNJ comes to Snell Field.
