Frey Named Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus College field hockey goalie Addie Frey was named Centennial Conference defensive player of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Frey was sensational in the cage as the 10th-ranked Bears stretched their winning streak to seven games with a pair of conference shutouts. The junior stopped two shots in a 4-0 victory over Swarthmore before piling up 13 critical saves in a 3-0 win at Gettysburg, one in which she was also aided by a defensive save from Erin McIlhenny.

In the midst of their unbeaten run, the Bears were named a team of the week by PhilaFH.

Frey has been locked in during her first season as a starter. Through the first eight games, she ranks second in the Centennial in saves (54) and third in save percentage (.857) while posting three shutouts. Frey has three double-digit save performances on her ledger for Ursinus, which is tied with Franklin & Marshall atop the CC standings and has not conceded a goal in its last three outings.

The Bears have a big test waiting for them on Thursday, when No. 3 TCNJ comes to Collegeville for a showdown of top-10 powers.
