Field Hockey blanks Bryn Mawr, 10-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Seven different players scored goals as the Ursinus College field hockey team (10-2, 6-1 Centennial) defeated Bryn Mawr (0-9, 0-6 Centennial) 10-0 on Tuesday afternoon in field hockey play.

Junior forward Amber Steigerwalt (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South), sophomore forward Brooke Overly (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and freshman Maria DiCioccio (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township) each scored twice as the Bears had a 55-2 shot advantage.

Junior defender Aliki Torrence (Reading, Pa./Exeter) scored her first goal of the season on a one-time pass from Mikayla Jordan at 27:32.

Senior midfielder Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) scored a goal – on a penalty stroke – and assisted on three other goals.

The Bears scored the game-winner 20 seconds into the game when senior Danielle Stong (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) scored on a pass from senior forward Samantha Macchio (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow). Steigerwalt then scored on a deflection from Keenan at 2:36 for a 2-0 lead.

Senior forward Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) then scored at 14:17 on a corner, from a pass from junior defender Ann Kopera (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), followed by Overly's goal at 15:52 and 17:35.

Following Torrence's goal, Keenan scored on a penalty stroke at 29:41, before DiCioccio scored her third goal of the year at 32:06 on a Keenan assist.

In the second half, Steigerwalt scored on a Keenan pass at 37:21 while DiCioccio scored unassisted at 67:43.

All three goal keepers played as senior Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood), freshman Jules Singer (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and sophomore Sydney Godbey (Waldorf, Md./Mercersburg) all split time.

Ursinus will host top-ranked TCNJ on Saturday, and then West Chester for the annual Snell Cup game on Sunday.
