Field Hockey takes 6-0 win over Johns Hopkins

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Owning a 33-2 shot advantage and a 22-1 penalty corner edge, eight-ranked Ursinus (9-2, 5-1 Centennial) defeated Johns Hopkins (5-7, 2-3 Centennial) 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Junior forward Amber Steigerwalt (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) scored two goals in the tenth and 18th minutes to give Ursinus an early 2-0 edge, followed by senior forward Samantha Macchio (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) getting a tip-in goal at 22:52 for a 3-0 lead. Senior midfielder Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) had two assists early on, on both of Steigerwalt's goals, while junior defender Colleen Leahy (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) assisted on Macchio's goal at 22:52.  

Junior defender Ann Kopera (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) would score her fourth goal of the season at 29:58, followed by Keenan's lone goal of the game at 30:59 on an assist from senior forward Danielle Stong (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area).

In the second half, Leahy scored on an assist from freshman forward Maria DiCioccio (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township).

Goalkeepers sophomore Sydney Godbey (Waldorf, Md./Mercersburg) and freshman Jules Singer (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) each made a save in the second half, as senior Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) played the first half.

Ursinus will host Bryn Mawr on Tuesday.
