Field Hockey downs Haverford, 4-1

HAVERFORD, Pa. –  Ursinus scored two goals in each half as the eighth-ranked Bears (8-2, 4-1 Centennial) defeated Haverford (7-3, 3-1 Centennial) 4-1 Wednesday night in field hockey action on the Main Line.

Senior forward Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro-North) scored two goals, while senior midfielder Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) had two assists for Ursinus. Brooke Overly also had a goal for the Bears, as did senior forward Danielle Stong (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area).

Brakel scored the first goal of the game on a cross from senior midfielder Stephanie Cooper (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) at 18:30, while Overly's lone goal followed at 19:35.

Brakel gave the Bears a 3-0 lead at 47:31 on a penalty corner with Keenan and Stong assisting, while Stong scored at 55:17 on a penalty corner with Keenan assisting.

Haverford got on the board at 66:38 when Nicole Witte scored on a cross from Brenna Boehman.

Senior goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made eight saves in the win, as Ursinus will host Johns Hopkins Saturday.
