Field Hockey opens with 3-0 win over Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Ursinus College field hockey, ranked seventh in the country, opened its season with a 3-0 win over Arcadia (1-1) on Thursday night.

Senior forward Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro-North) scored two goals, while junior forward Amber Steigerwalt (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) scored a goal and assisted on Brakel's first goal of the game.

Steigerwalt accounted for the lone goal in the first half, scoring with just 24 seconds to go in the half.

In the second half, Brakel scored her first one minute into the half on a Steigerwalt assist. Brakel would add her second at 49:59.

Ursinus held a commanding 40-9 edge on shots on the night, with Knight goalie Brittany Hodson making 22 saves. For Ursinus, who led in penalty corners 23-4, senior goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made five saves.

Ursinus heads to William Smith on Saturday.
