Football Shut Out at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Ursinus College football team were unable to get anything going offensively and dropped a 36-0 Centennial Conference shutout at No. 22 Susquehanna on Saturday.

The Bears (3-4, 2-4) finished with just 99 yards of total offense and will be thrilled to see the back of October, which pitted them against three nationally ranked squads in consecutive contests.

Senior quarterback Thomas Garlick left with an injury on the second offensive series for Ursinus, which was already without star running back Samuel Ragland. Aidan Klassen (6-for-11, 54 yards) and Jack Psenicska (3-for-4, 18 yards) performed admirably under difficult circumstances.

Da'Avian Ellington finished with 156 yards on 24 carries for the River Hawks (6-1, 5-1), including a 3-yard touchdown to open the scoring with 9:44 remaining in the first quarter.

Susquehanna added a field goal in the first minute of the second frame and went ahead 17-0 on an 8-yard touchdown run by Xavier Briggs-DeVore. Quarterback Michael Ruisch's 22-yard touchdown scramble made it 23-0 with 37 seconds left before halftime.

The River Hawks added on 13 points in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

Marcus Weathers had a sack among seven tackles for the Bears, while Mike Reilly led the way with 10 tackles (1 for loss), two pass breakups, and a blocked extra point. Brett Capobianco registered three tackles for loss.

Kyle Wiggins was the most productive offensive player for Ursinus, catching four passes for 42 yards.

The Bears return home to face McDaniel next Saturday.
