Men’s Soccer Blanks Ursinus, Clinches CC Playoff Berth

Omosanya nets first goal of the season (46’).

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. –  Junior Ezekiel Omosanya (Lagos, Nigeria/Northfield Mount Hermon [Mass.]) and freshman Oladayo Thomas (Larchmont, N.Y./The Masters) each found the back of the net as the Gettysburg College men's soccer team blanked Ursinus College 2-0 in its final regular season Centennial Conference match-up Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field.

With their win against Ursinus and a Swarthmore loss at Haverford, the Bullets clinched the fifth and final spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs. For the second year in a row, Gettysburg will appear in the conference playoffs.

Freshman Dillon Konzelmann (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) made three saves to earn his fourth win and fourth shutout in goal for the Bullets while Brandon Lillian turned aside two shots for the Bears.

The Bullets offense struggled to get anything flowing in the opening half as the hosts outshot 7-4 with three shots being on goal to Gettysburg's one. The score stayed at 0-0 deadlock heading into intermission.

A minute into the second-half, the Bears fouled inside the box, allowing Gettysburg the opportunity to take a penalty kick. Omosanya was called to duty and drilled a perfect shot to the lower left corner of the net to put the Bullets ahead 1-0. Omosanya collected his first goal of the season and the fifth of his career.

Ursinus notched back-to-back shots within five seconds of each other in the 64th minute, but that was all the offensive opportunities they saw as the Bullets defense buckled down and did not allow another shot for the remainder of the match.

With 45 seconds remaining in the match, junior Matthew McCann (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga College) won the ball from the goalie coming out and slipped a pass to a wide open Thomas on the left side who added the insurance goal for the Bullets. McCann handed out his second assist on the season while Thomas accumulated his eighth goal.

Each team ended the match with nine shots with the Bullets holding the edge in corner kicks, 5-3.

The Bullets will face fourth-seeded Dickinson College next Wednesday with a time to be determined.
