The Muhlenberg baseball team had its four-game winning streak snapped with a tough 6-4 home loss to Ursinus.
The Mules (16-13, 6-5) took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third on four doubles, by juniors
Brenden Weiss and
John Serruto, senior
Matt Riebesell and junior
Jack Avallone. The last two doubles came with two outs, and Riebesell's extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
The advantage held up until the top of the eighth, when the Bears (15-13, 5-6) struck for five runs, taking the lead on a two-run home run.
Muhlenberg loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth but was able to bring only one run home, on a sacrifice fly by sophomore
Robert Cappadona.
Sophomore
Paul Poppert had a solid start, pitching into the eighth inning for the first time in his career. Freshman
Will Nomura retired five of the six batters he faced and remained unscored-upon in five appearances this season.
Serruto went 3-for-4, while Weiss
(pictured above), Riebesell and seniors
Jon Capra and
Seth Wasserman recorded two hits apiece.
