Hounds Defeat Ursinus, 3-1, in Non-Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's volleyball team recorded a 3-1 non-conference victory over visiting Ursinus College in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

  • The first set was a back-and-forth contest with neither team leading by more than three points. The Hounds eventually scored the final two points of the set for a 28-26 victory to take a 1-0 lead
  • The Bears opened a 7-2 edge in the second set before Moravian pulled within a point at 7-6. Ursinus answered with seven straight points to take control at 16-6 on the way to a 25-14 set score to tie the match at 1-1
  • Ursinus scored the first three points, and the Blue & Grey answered with three points to knot the set at 3-3. The Bears made it 6-3 before an 8-0 run from the Greyhounds gave Moravian an 11-3 edge. The Hounds maintained their advantage for the rest of the set to earn a 25-15 set victory and move ahead 2-1
  • Moravian opened a 4-0 edge in the fourth set and moved out to a 17-10 advantage. The Bears closed within two points at 17-15 before the Greyhounds scored eight of the final 11 points for a 25-18 set win to clinch the match victory 

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore right side hitter Makenzie Krasley and sophomore outside hitter Jenna Deegan paced the Greyhounds with 12 kills and a block apiece
  • Junior right-side hitter Sophie Bauer added nine kills and a pair of digs while freshman middle blocker Davana Elysee and junior middle blocker Grace Silfani each had two blocks and a kill
  • Senior setter Natalia Matos ran Moravian's offense with 31 assists, and she also had 13 digs, two kills and a pair of service aces while senior libero Gabby Mancini contributed 24 digs, five assists and two service aces
  • Junior defensive specialist Emily Szy recorded 12 digs and three service aces for the Hounds while junior defensive specialist Allie Ludlow had five digs and three service aces and freshman defensive specialist Tamara Vasquez added four digs
