Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Big First Half Leads To Garnet Win At Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse established an 8-4 first-half lead en route to a 15-11 win at Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon. Swarthmore had four players record hat tricks in the victory: Elizabeth Wainwright, Julia Ostrowski, Kathryn Restrepo and Mackenzie Frost.

Sophie Peipher registered a pair of goals off of free-position shots and Tess Wild added one.

With a game-high seven draw controls of her own, Wild helped Swarthmore to 18 draw control wins on the day while limiting Ursinus to 10. Frost collected five draw controls.

Betsy Cohen recorded 10 saves in the win.

The Garnet struck first on a goal from Frost set up by Ostrowski. Later in the first, with the game tied 2-2 and 13:03 left in the period, the Garnet went on a three-goal spree in just one minute and 23 seconds.

Ursinus responded with a pair of goals, but the Garnet retaliated with four consecutive goals to close out the first half and open the second. Ostrowski found the back of the net for her third of the game with just three seconds left in the first half.

Swarthmore's lead reached six goals at 11-5 with 24:55 to play in the second half and reached seven, the largest lead of the game with 16:16 to play in the game off of an unassisted strike by Wainwright.

Ursinus scored three goals to cut into Swarthmore's lead, but it was too little, too late.

The Garnet (8-1, 1-1 Centennial) host Bryn Mawr at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
