Women's Soccer Level with Ursinus in Scoreless Draw

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (5-2-4, 1-1-3 CC) played to a scoreless draw against Ursinus (4-3-4, 1-2-2 CC) in Centennial Conference action in Collegeville on Saturday afternoon. The Fords dominated possession, with a 16-5 lead in shots and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks, but Kaela Frenchman of the Bears made eight saves to deny the Fords a result with a solid turn between the pipes. 

Ursinus had some early offensive momentum, but Haverford put the first shot on frame for either team in the 23rd minute as Celia Page notched a shot that Frenchman denied. Page also had a pair of shots slightly off frame in the 25th, and 26th minutes, respectively, before Phoebe Garfield added a shot on goal in the 29th minute. 

A big flurry of Haverford shots came down the stretch in the first half, with Lauren Anderson and Garfield putting attempts on cage in the 38th and 39th minutes, while Meg Bowen was turned away by Frenchman in the 41st minute, and Grace Haskell also had her shot saved in the 43rd minute. The Fords headed into the intermission with an 11-2 edge in shots and a 5-1 lead in corner kicks.

In the second period, Ursinus had some solid looks denied by Claire Cywes, who was called into action to deny Izzy Allocco and Alicia Page in the first 10 minutes of the half, before Liv McMillan and JJ Stein each got shots on frame in the 67th and 78th minutes, respectively.  Klink and Haskell had solid scoring opportunities in the 88th minute, but Klink's header went high and Haskell's shot sailed wide on the final shot attempt for either side. 

Claire Cywes earned her sixth shutout of the season with the scoreless draw, finishing with a pair of saves. Page had a game-best three shots, while Garfield put two of hers on frame. 

The Fords will now continue Centennial Conference play on Saturday, October 12 at No. 24 Franklin & Marshall. The midweek contest with the Diplomats is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. in Lancaster.
