Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Wins CC Match

A goal by freshman Chris Richards late in the first half was all the Muhlenberg men's soccer team needed to defeat Ursinus, 1-0.

The win put the Mules (8-4-2, 1-4-1) into the Centennial Conference win column following four one-goal losses. Muhlenberg, ranked 10th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, played its first five CC games against other regionally ranked teams. The Ursinus game kicked off a stretch of four straight contests against teams that aren't ranked.

The goal was set up by a pass from sophomore Phillip Bell at midfield to senior Matthew Athanas-Linden, who played it ahead to freshman Taylan Akdag. Akdag's pass deflected off an Ursinus player right to Richards, who cut through the box, dodged the Bear goalie and chipped the ball in for his eighth goal of the season.

The Muhlenberg defense took care of the rest, holding Ursinus (4-7-2, 0-5-1) to one shot in the second half.

Senior Raymond Leto made three saves for his fourth shutout of the season.

The Mules are 26-0-1 all-time against Ursinus in CC games and have not lost to the Bears since 1984.
