Bears Passing Attack Overwhelms Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata football team fell 65-2 to Ursinus in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. 

Ursinus opened with possession, with the Bears scoring on the kickoff return for an early 7-0 advantage. Juniata's first drive was quelled by Ursinus, leading to a punt, with the Bears beginning their drive from their 24. It took Ursinus 10 plays to double their advantage, ending in a six-yard rush into the endzone. 

The Eagles yet again punted after failing to convert a first town, and Ursinus continued the pattern with a third touchdown that ended on a 31-yard pass. Juniata restarted from their own 18 and logged their first down for the first time in the game. Their forward progress was quelled by an interception that put Ursinus on the Juniata 22. The Bears took two plays to find the end zone for the fourth time in the first quarter. 

Juniata started the second quarter with consecutive third down conversions before having to punt from their 43, putting Ursinus at their 11. Ursinus found the endzone for their fifth consecutive drive on nine plays, but a missed field goal gave the Bears a 34-0 lead. The Eagles went three and out on their next drive, and Ursinus would again respond with a touchdown.  

Juniata forced a punt from Ursinus for the first time, and Seth Bernstein blocked the punt to force a safety and the lone two points of the game for the Eagles. Juniata was forced to punt again after coming up short to open the drive, and the Bears tacked a 44-yard field goal onto their lead before halftime for a 44-2 lead.

Bernstein's punt block earn Juniata two points on the safety. 

The third quarter saw two more Ursinus touchdowns, making it as far as the Ursinus 26 on their last drive of the third. 

The Ursinus offense tacked one more touchdown on the score line in the fourth quarter for a 65-2 final scoreline. 

Noah Wright went eight for 22 on pass completions with 81 total passing yards and one interception. 

Julian Jackson totaled 50 receiving yards across four attempts, while JT Pentz had 18 yards on one reception. Cameron Fabian had 16 rushing yards across 20 attempts. 

Dontey Rogan and Quintin Stephens lead the Juniata defense with seven tackles apiece, while Max Locke's 1.5 tackles for loss lead to 10 yards lost, a team-high figure. 

Prior to today's game, the Senior members of the football team and cheerleading squad were recognized for Senior Day. 

The Eagles conclude the regular season at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 12, as they face Susquehanna University in the Goal Post Game.
