Michael Moronese was elevated to the role of strength and conditioning coach in the spring of 2020 after serving in an interim capacity since the beginning of the year.

“We are thrilled to promote Mike to be our full-time strength and conditioning coach,” Director of Athletics and Recreation Laura Moliken said. “As an alum, he is committed to our mission and has displayed an exceptional ability to get the most out of our student-athletes. He has great relationships with our athletes, coaches, and staff, and we are excited to watch him continue to develop Bears present and future.”

Moronese has served as assistant strength and conditioning coach since 2017. In that role, he is responsible for the implementation of periodized programs for all 25 varsity sports to maximize the development of both individual student-athletes and their teams as a whole. Moronese leads and facilitates team training sessions, working with coaches and athletic trainers to discuss planning and injury trends, including the creation of alternative programming for injured athletes in collaboration with the sports medicine department. Moronese was heavily involved in the recent redesign of the fitness center.

"Working as a part of Team Ursinus is an amazing honor and I am excited to continue collaborating with everyone with my new roles,” Moronese said. “Supporting my Ursinus family in their individual and team endeavors has been a driving force of my passion, and this position has offered me my answer to the core question ‘What will I do?’ What better way to pursue my vocation than to contribute to the community that gave me so much? Each day of the last four years has been a fantastic part of a wonderful journey. I’ve enjoyed every moment shared with students, athletes and fellow faculty and staff. I am beyond grateful and excited to continue this journey of serving this institution and devoting my efforts to enhancing the Ursinus experience."

Moronese is active in a number of other roles within the athletic department, including as a lecturer for the Health & Physiology department. Along with assistant strength and conditioning coach Austin Hoffman, he manages a team of student-workers in the fitness center and also serves as a mentor for the Emerging Leaders Academy program.

A former captain on the football team, Moronese was a four-year linebacker for the Bears. He finished his career with 94 tackles (19 for loss), three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and 8.5 sacks, including 5.5 as a senior. Moronese returned to the sidelines in 2016 as defensive line coach, spending two seasons in that role.

After graduating in 2015 with a degree in Health & Exercise Physiology, Moronese worked as a counselor at Glen Mills School and spent six months as a football strength and conditioning intern at Rutgers. He earned a massage therapy license from the Cortiva Institute in King of Prussia in December.
