McClure, Mumme Named Most Outstanding Male Athletes

Baseball's Alex Mumme and men's lacrosse's Bobby McClure have been selected as recipients of the Most Outstanding Male Athlete award, the Ursinus College Athletic Department announced Friday. The honor is reserved for the top male student-athlete(s) in the graduating class.

The senior stars, who both had their seasons cut short this spring, are two of the all-time greats in their respective sports.

Mumme, also a recipient of the Ronald Kichline Prize, sits atop the record books in a slew of statistical categories, including: Home runs (30), runs scored (131), doubles (58), and slugging percentage (.737). He ranks second in RBIs (113) and hits (169), both of which he was all but guaranteed to overtake with a full season.

Mumme became the second Centennial Conference player of the year in program history in 2019, when he posted school records for doubles (21), home runs (14), RBIs (45), runs (60), and slugging percentage (.844). Mumme led the CC in runs, doubles, RBIs, and total bases and was the Division III statistical champion in runs per game at 1.67 en route to earning first team All-American status from D3baseball.com and second-team recognition from ABCA/Rawlings.

A two-time first team All-CC performer and the only two-time D3baseball.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region honoree in Ursinus history, Mumme earned All-CC honorable mention as a rookie. During his freshman season, Mumme set a school record with 20 doubles to rank 4th in the country, and became just the seventh player in conference history to hit two home runs in a playoff game as he helped lead the Bears to the CC championship series.

McClure is the most prolific offensive player in Ursinus men's lacrosse history, leaving with all-time records for goals (131) and points (205) despite having the second half of his senior season ended. Through the first seven games of the 2020 campaign, he was leading the Centennial Conference with 19 assists, good for ninth in Division III, and was 13th in the nation with 34 points. McClure was a four-time CC offensive player of the week and was twice named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III team of the week.

McClure turned in the best season ever by a Bear attack in 2019, setting single-season records with 59 goals and 81 points and leading Ursinus to its first Centennial Conference championship. He received All-America honorable mention from the USILA as a junior and collected All-America honorable mention from Inside Lacrosse this spring. McClure posted half of his 28 career hat tricks in 2019, leaving only three games without one all season.
