Women's XC Takes 8th at CC Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Riley Engel turned in another strong performance at a championship meet to lead the Ursinus College women's cross country team to eighth place at the Centennial Conference championship on Saturday.

Engel marked a time of 23:55.5 to finish in 33rd place overall, pacing the Bears' contingent once again. Engel's placement was a career high, edging last year's 34th-place showing and giving her four consecutive top-50 performances in her conference championship career.

The eighth-place finish was Ursinus' best at the CC meet since 2014, and matched its highest since 2008.

Senior Brittany Gasser was the next Bear across the line on a wet and windy morning at Haverford, finishing 65th overall in a time of 25:29.9. Classmate Gabrielle Manto was just a few seconds behind at 25:32.1.

Freshman Maddie McHugh notched a new personal best by 50 seconds, finishing the 6-kilometer course in 25:44.1 to wind up 70th overall. Fellow rookie Madison Tillman was hot on her heels at 25:45.9.

Freshman Lauren Ferguson also produced a new PR at 25:53.8, nearly a half-minute clear of her previous season low.

Senior Audrey Simpson completed the race in an even 26:00.0, good for a PR and a season low by over a minute, and junior Ellie Stanley marked a new PR of her own with a 26:14.3. Freshman Amanda Choi's time of 27:36.3 was also a new career best.

The Bears host their annual Fall Twilight meet next Friday before taking on the NCAA Mideast Regional on November 10.
