Volleyball Drops Two at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. - The Ursinus College volleyball team suffered a pair of sweeps on the second and final day of the Knights Invitational at Neumann University.

The Bears dropped a 25-18, 25-20, 25-16 decision to Moravian in their morning match before succumbing to a 25-12, 25-15, 25-21 setback at the hands of Pitt-Bradford.

Katie Cressman was named to the all-tournament team after leading Ursinus in kills in two of their three appearances at the invitational.

Moravian 3, Ursinus 0

The Bears got off to a great start in their first match, jumping out to a 12-6 lead after two kills by Caroline Sherman and another from Gabby McGinn. Still in front by a 14-11 count, Ursinus surrendered a 10-1 run to the Greyhounds, who pulled away to grab the first set.

The second set saw a sluggish start for Ursinus, which fell behind early and trailed by as many as ten points before closing to within 23-20 as Cressman posted a kill and back-to-back aces.

The third frame was a seesaw affair until Moravian turned a slim 11-10 advantage into an 18-12 cushion on the way to polishing off the sweep.

Cressman led the Bears with a dozen kills, while Sherman had nine. Luca Walborn (11 digs) and Megan Aube (10) headlined a balanced defensive effort that also featured nine digs from Rachel Bernard and seven apiece from Cressman and Emma Illovsky.

Pitt-Bradford 3, Ursinus 0

After Bradford claimed the first two sets in relatively convincing fashion, the Bears fought back and staked themselves to an 11-5 advantage on the strength of a 9-1 run. Ursinus still owned a 17-14 edge and was knotted at 21 before the Panthers ran off four in a row to punctuate the win.

Sherman had nine kills and Cressman chipped in seven for the Bears.
