Volleyball Swept at Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College volleyball team dropped Tuesday night's match at Cedar Crest in three tight sets.

Katie Cressman, Caroline Sherman, and Haley Spotts each produced eight kills for the Bears (3-2), who fell by a count of 25-19, 25-20, 25-20.

Ursinus was out to a 5-3 lead in the first set after consecutive kills by Emma Illovsky and Cressman, but the Falcons (5-3) went ahead for good with a five-point run. The hosts added another five-point spurt after the Bears had gotten to within 11-8, and kept Ursinus at arm's length on the way to taking the first frame.

The second set was played within a two-point margin almost the entire way, with Ursinus pulling even at 18-all following two straight Cedar Crest errors. The Falcons, however, ran off the next four points and snagged a 25-20 decision.

The third frame went much the same way. Both sides traded points until the scoreboard read 8-8, when the Falcons gained separation with a 9-1 spurt.

Spotts was particularly effective at the net, recording her eight kills on just 14 attacks and hitting .500 for the night.

Rachel Bernard just missed a double-double with 19 assists and nine digs, while Illovsky paced the team with 11 digs.

The volleyball team heads to Neumann University for the Knights Invitational, which begins Friday night against Widener.
