Volleyball Earns Academic Team Award

Volleyball Earns Academic Team Award

AVCA Release

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Ursinus College volleyball team earned a Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the third consecutive season.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average. This year's 1,313 winners shattered the previous year's all-time record of 1,130.

Two years ago, the Bears were recognized for the first time in program history.

The AVCA Team Academic Award is the single largest award offered by quantity of schools, players and coaches honored. Since the 2000-2001 season, the number of recipients has increased every single year but two, while more than doubling the total over the last nine academic years.

The Bears had four players named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor roll last season – rising seniors Paige DeAlba and Grace Sullivan, rising junior Kaitlyn McGinley, and 2020 graduates Lauren Novotny and Lydia Pierce.
