Volleyball Loses in Four Sets to Neumann

ASTON, Pa. - The Ursinus College volleyball team fell in four sets in its midweek contest at Neumann. After splitting the opening two sets, the Bears dropped the ensuing two, losing, 3-1.

The Bears fell behind, 8-1, in the opening set and were unable to recover. Kills from  Miranda Foster and Kelly Piotrowicz helped bring the score back within six, but the Knights pulled away with another 5-1 run and closed out the set.

Much like the first set, a team took a big early lead. This time it was the Bears who opened the second set 7-1 behind a pair of aces from Piotrowicz. The Knights came back to tie the set up at 16, but the Bears responded by taking nine of the next 11 points, winning the set. Katie Cressman led the charge with two kills in the run.

After a 5-0 Knights run led to the Bears losing the third set, Ursinus came back in the fourth looking to force a decider. Down 14-10, the Bears went on a 7-2 run sparked by two kills from Paige DeAlba to go up 17-16. However,  the Knights responded a 4-0 run of their own to retake the lead. Trailing 24-20, Ursinus won back-to-back points to come back within two, but a Knights kill on their third match point handed the Bears the 3-1 loss.

Rachel Girard led the team with nine kills while Piotrowicz had a team-high 13 digs. Luca Walborn added 17 assists on the night.
