Volleyball Swept at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's volleyball team lost a pair of non-conference sweeps in a tri-match at Widener on Saturday.

The Bears fell 25-10, 25-12, 25-16 to the host Pride and dropped a 25-23, 25-16, 25-19 decision to King's (Pa.) in their second match.

Fresh off an incredible five-set victory over Dickinson, Ursinus (7-11) was unable to carry over the momentum. The Bears hit -.202 against Widener and could not find a foothold.

Ursinus was much better against King's, pushing the Monarchs in a tight opening set. The Bears held a 17-12 lead after sophomore Emily Harris pounded her third kill of the frame, but King's went on a 7-2 spurt to knot it at 19-19. Consecutive kills by Harris and junior Miranda Foster made it 23-22 Ursinus before a service error and two mishit attacks handed the set to the Monarchs.

The early portions of each of the next two sets were closely contested, but King's gradually pulled away in both and managed to keep the Bears at arm's length.

Foster had a great match for Ursinus, knocking 12 kills. Classmate Kelly Piotrowicz produced 17 assists and 16 digs, while sophomore Grace Sullivan had a team-best 18 digs; freshman Kaitlyn McGinley hustled her way to 10.

The Bears pick back up with Centennial Conference play at Haverford on Wednesday.
